Squee! A DnD Movie!
This looks like so much fun. I'm sure purists will point out all the things that are wrong that they see in the trailer (it's a reaaaally bad idea to jump into a gelatinous cube), but I really don't give a rat's ass about that. I don't care if a druid isn't supposed to turn into an owlbear. I believe rules are just guidelines in any RPG. For me, the story is the most important aspect. If someone turning into an owlbear makes for an excellent spectacle and adds to the story, then whee! Let's do it. The whole point of roleplaying in fantastical worlds is using one's imagination. Your world can be whatever you make it.
The actors cast in this are great. I never would have pictured Hugh Grant having anything to do with DnD, and the fact he is in this movie cracks me the hell up. And I love Michelle Rodriguez. She's played some kick-ass characters in the past, but this one takes the cake. She looks awesome as a barbarian, and the fight scene looks like the kind of thing where I'd be shouting, "Yeah!" as she beat the ever-loving shit out of someone. (Wow. That makes me sound like some kind of crazy, aggressive, violent sort of person. I'm not. Honest. Well... maybe a little crazy.)
On a side note, we all know how Vin Diesel loves DnD. Michelle Rodriguez has been his costar for pretty much ever in umpteen Fast and Furious movies. In an article I read, when asked if Vin Diesel is jealous of her role, she said, "Yeah. It's great. I get to rub it in his face."(news.yahoo.com/michelle-rodriguez-says-vin-diesels-011657701.html)
I can't wait until March 2023. Let me know in the comments if you're looking forward to this one, too!
